Oral health is an important process that should be done twice a day. Some materials should be used to perform oral care. These; toothpaste, toothbrush, dental floss, mouthwash. Oral hygiene is ensured by oral health with these materials, a fresh breath and a beautiful smile emerge. When oral hygiene is completed, the teeth are clean, there is no residue. Gums are pink and do not bleed. Bad breath does not occur.

The importance of oral health is especially evident in the growing age. For this reason, it is necessary for parents to give their children the necessary education about oral care during their infancy. With the oral care that starts in infancy, the teeth that come out after the milk teeth are much healthier. Having healthy teeth is important for looking and feeling good, but it is also important for eating comfortably and speaking with confidence.

With a regular and correct oral health, possible intraoral problems can be prevented early. When problems arise, a much more painful and costly process emerges. It can never be compared with the time and cost spent on oral care. Inexpensive and trouble-free oral health is possible.

It is up to the person to turn oral health into a routine at home in a correct and regular way. Because it is a very easy application and does not bother the person in any way. When we look at the basics of oral care, eating a balanced diet and reducing snacks, brushing the teeth correctly twice a day, using fluoride toothpastes, rinsing the mouth with mouthwash, using dental floss to completely clean food residues.

When choosing oral care products, it is approved and can be acted on according to the advice of the dentist. A purchased toothbrush should not be used for more than 6 months. If the bristles on the brush have started to separate from each other, it means that your toothbrush has started to complete its life.

How to brush

You do not need to use a lot of toothpaste. Contrary to popular belief, it will suffice to use a chickpea-sized toothpaste. You should hold your toothbrush at an angle of 45 degrees with the brush tips facing your gums. In other words, holding it with a diagonal angle will ensure this. Brush your teeth gently in circular, oval motions without applying too much pressure. You can use the brush in the upper parts of your teeth, which we call the chewing part, by moving it back and forth. Tongue surface cleaning is also an essential part of dental care.

Cleaning the surface of the tongue also helps prevent bad breath. Don’t brush your teeth for 3 minutes at least twice a day. If this is difficult to plan, you can program yourself in the morning and evening, start your day, and say goodbye. Just spit out the toothpaste after brushing your teeth. Prolonged rinsing with water and spitting out will reduce the effectiveness of the toothpaste.

Flossing your teeth

When used correctly, out of reach of a toothbrush, flossing can remove food particles of plaque under the gums and between the teeth. We recommend regular floss.
Take about 40 inches of floss and wrap most of the twine around your middle finger, leaving 4 to 2 inches of floss at your disposal. Hold the floss firmly between your thumb and index finger and gently move it up and down between your teeth.

Gently run the floss over all tooth surfaces and make sure the floss crosses the gum line. Do not force the floss as this may result in cutting or crushing sensitive gingival tissue. Use clean sections of floss as you move from tooth to tooth To remove the floss, use the same back and forth motion to move the floss up and out of your tooth.

What you eat can be good or bad for teeth

Every time we eat, food residues accumulate between the teeth and provide a source for bacteria. The more often we eat and the longer they stay in our mouths, the greater the destruction and cavities that bacteria will inflict on our teeth. After eating sugary or acidic foods, your teeth are exposed to acid attack for about 20 minutes. If you have to snack in between, brush your teeth or use sugar-free gum after meals. Smoking significantly increases the risk of lung and oral cancer, causes gum disease and causes dark spots on your teeth, not to mention bad breath. For your oral health, we recommend that you do not smoke.

Keep up the good work

Although you go to the dentist regularly, check your own mouth. Noticing a problem in your mouth until your check-up time comes can make the treatment easier and less expensive. Broken teeth, swelling of the gums, discoloration or non-healing sores in your mouth are among the many conditions that you can observe and report to your doctor when you carefully check them. This control is especially important for smokers, since they have a greater risk of developing oral cancer, they should do these controls without delay. Do not forget to do regular maintenance.
